After 15 days of challenges and adventures, I can happily say that there were no issues or dramas with the Lifestyle Camper Trailers taken by the team.
No breakages thank fully and trust me, we tried to break them! Putting the trailer through hell and testing them to the limits as much as we possibly could (even getting them all to the top of Big Red) I am here to say that Lifestyle Camper Trailers truly are heavy-duty off road camper trailers.
Also, the final 2 team members that I wish to introduce to you are the honeymooners – Craig and Allison. Both in a roof topper and a newly married couple, the two got to experience the holiday that they had always dreamed of followed by a fantastic day with new and old friends. Doing what they love with such a fantastic group of people, who would want to spend their honey moon any other way?
I am Jessica Swinglehurst, thank you for joining me on the trip of a lifetime! I hope one day you get to live the lifestyle that you want to live.
Well today we say goodbye to the Simpson Desert but not before we conquer her biggest challenge – Big Red! With cars and camper trailers checked over and all ready for another challenging day, the team are all very excited as we get ready to leave for todays journey.
Our planned destination for this evening is Birdsville and hopefully if there aren’t any major issues through out the day, a little bit further on past Birdsville which will shorten our now 10 hour drive to Charlaville on Saturday.
After nearly 2 weeks of setting up and packing down our Lifestyle Camper Trailers every morning and afternoon (and sometimes night!), the team are definitely getting the hang of things and our set ups and pack downs are being done in record time.
With everyone pitching in to help each other, there have been no issues with the trailers over nights or with the pack ups in the morning other than the freezing cold weather which makes our hands numb and sore, resulting in a difficult pack up when it comes to touching cold poles or having to use water for various reasons.
Looking forward to another wonderful day on the road but also with the end of our amazing trip in site, I think I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say that this has definitely been the trip of a lifetime and it will not be forgotten any time soon.
Unfortunately we didn’t quite get to our planned destination of Poepple Corner for the night but we did manage to get just a few KM’s out and have found a brilliant looking campsite for the night. With our first night time set up underway at the moment we are still awaiting the arrival of a few other families from the team who are having a few difficulties with some of the tougher dunes on the way to the site.
Today presented a few great challenges which left us with one running repair on John George’s car with an unknown problem which is going to have to be looked at in the morning after an early start so that we can get to our scheduled stop tomorrow evening of Birdsville.
With the team having to face a few sketchy sand dunes today but managing to conquer them all so far, tomorrow is sure to be an interesting and exciting day as we make our way to ‘The Big Red’, The Simpson Desert’s largest sand dune standing at 44 meters high. Don’t panic yet though because I will definitely keep you informed and will have a few photos to show for our amazing adventures through the Simpson Desert.
Well after an amazing 2 days at the incredible Ooraminna Station, we are now on the road again.
With no more fines to report, it is obvious that the Team had a very memorable time and we are all wishing that we could stay for another night or 2. With a few last looks at the amazing sites and buildings we are all in the process of planing some way to get us all back again.
As we get closer to our adventure through the mighty Simpson Desert, the team are all extremely excited to start some real 4×4-ing! With over 1,100 sand dunes, the desert is promising us some difficult challenges that we are ready to take head on!
As for our ‘Meet The Team’ segment, today I would like to introduce you to the young boys. The Swinglehurst’s, Luke, Steven and Mitchell; The George’s, Mitchell and Luke, The Willaton’s, Justin, Daniel and Lachlan and finally, Joe Schroter.
These boys, much like their fathers have a love for camping, 4×4-ing and the great outdoors. Although they all come from very different backgrounds, families and even countries, over the last week and a bit, these boys have managed to bong, find things that they each have in common even with the age differences and even get up to some mischief. With out these boys as part of the team, the trip was sure to have been a lot less enjoyable and many laughs would have been surely missed.
In a future post, you will be able to meet the young girls of the trip.
Most used word of the ‘Conquering The Simpson 2012′ trip = WOW!
And it certainly became the most used after the last 3 days. Seeing Uluru (the sunset and the sunrise), climbing the rock and then seeing and flying above King’s Canyon was the most amazing experience and I think I can say that on behalf of the team, it was definitely an experience that will be remembered and treasured for many years to come.
This morning we were lucky enough to wake up to a warmer morning whilst watching the beautiful sun rise up into the clear blue sky over the top of King’s Canyon. The views that we have seen not only in the morning during sunrise or in the evening during the sunset, but also during the days whilst we have been on the road have been absolutely breath taking. This amazing land of Australia that we are lucky enough to be able to call home is one that is definitely worth exploring!
Today we are heading off through Alice Springs and then heading onto Ooraminna Homestead which is a working cattle station. The team are very excited to hopefully experience the cattle being mustered during our stay.
Once again, more photos and posts will be coming shortly so, stay tuned!
After another crisp, 2 degree morning wake up this morning, Team Lifestyle have almost finished yet another successful pack up before heading out for a drive to King’s Canyon.
A few more fines were given out last night and even this morning already but we also have an award to be handed out. This award goes to Daniel Willaton for his excellent hit of a Emu whilst driving a few days ago. Although a majority of the female members of the team voted for a fine to be given, it was decided that a prize was also in need for this acomplishment.
Thankfully, no more wildlife has been hurt during the ‘Conquering The Simpson 2012′ trip as of yet.
Stay tuned for an update from Kings Canyon and some photos from the helicopter ride that is in store for the team!
Well, this is it! Today, Team Lifestyle are finally going to climb the famous Uluru! After a big photography session at the rock during sunset last night everyone is in a great mood as we all prepare ourselves for this magnificent opportunity.
Thankfully, we did not have to have another early wake up this morning as we are staying at the Uluru Resort for 2 nights – which means NO PACKING UP!! Also, a nice cooked breakfast is also being prepared which is very exciting in the cold weather at the moment.
Check back in for some photos and more news from our amazing achievements after we climb Ayers Rock!!
Good morning and welcome to day number 6 of ‘Conquering The Simpson 2012′,
Thankfully, it was a little bit warmer last night at Marla, our first stop after 3 very challenging days of rough, dirt roads. Our trip today, is just over 500km to Uluru which is all bitumen road, so hopefully this will give the cars and the trailers a little bit of a break before we head off to conquer the great Simpson Desert.
The cars and trailers have performed perfectly as of yet so let’s hope that this good fortune continues for the remainder of our trip.
A little bit of a lazy night last night involving sitting around playing cards and drinking coffee/tea (that’s right – no alcohol was drunk last night!!) landed the team in bed by around 8:30pm followed by an earlier start this morning since our plan is to have packed up and left by 8:00am.
So, with that being said, I’d better get going and help pack!
After a quick stop at a turn off on the Oodnadatta Track, we have just had a stop due to a misshape with Jeff’s car but after a team effort with helping him we are now back on the road.
Our planned destination for this evening is a camp ground in Marla and a bit of a lazy afternoon hopefully with an opportunity to restock on supplies and then off to Uluru tomorrow.
I’m sure I speak for the whole team when I express my excitement for visiting such an incredible Australian Landmark. Although none of us are entirely sure as to what to expect when we arrive at Airs Rock but we are all positive that it will be a spectacular experience with us also having the amazing opportunity to climb the rock.
I will be sure to update you again very soon and also upload more photos for you viewing pleasure!
Well unfortunately there have not been any more fines given out this morning and no more lucky wearers of the dummy’s but I am positive that as it gets later into the night, this will all change!
After visiting the amazing ghost town this morning, Farina, we are just having a quick photo stop off at Lake Eyre and then onto Coward Springs and the Curdimurka abandoned railway and then stopping off for another camp out tonight at William Creek.
For our next lot of ‘Meet The Team’ people, I would like to introduce the mothers of the trip, Terri, Deanne, Vicky and Magda. Some new to camping and 4×4-ing and some old, they all enjoy the outdoors and definitely do not mind to get down and get their hands dirty. Terri and Deanne, with their eye for photography are sure to have some fantastic photos for your viewing on our return home from the trip. Vicky, being the one to supply a vast majority of the laughs so far and Magda giving us all an insight into the South African ways of cooking, this wonderful group of mothers are definitely a necessary component to Team Lifestyle on our trip.
With taking care of their husbands and children, cooking meals, helping with the daily set up and pull down of the camper trailers and also still enjoying themselves, these mothers are definitely one in a million.
With another update being provided later on tonight, don’t forget to check back in a keep up to date!
Team Lifestyle!
P.S. Bit of bad luck for John Swingo today who ended up with a big crack in the front windscreen of his car from a rock on the road that was flicked up by a passing car.
